Admission

Basic Requirement
Membership of the Institute in the category of Associate is opened to Malaysian citizens and non-citizens aged 18 and above who have:-

a) Passed the qualifying examination of the Institute, or
b) Obtained at least one of the "Prescribed Qualifications"

AND

a) has 3 or more years of relevant accountancy experience

AND

a) In the opinion of the Council is deemed fit and proper to be a member.

Those who have passed the qualifying examination of the Institute or exempted from the qualifying examination but have not obtained the relevant accountancy experience may apply for Graduate Membership of the Institute.

Accredited Prior Learning
The Institute accepts and recognizes accredited prior learning in the assessment of candidates for membership of the Institute. The knowledge and skills acquired must be relevant and current; and that evidence of such learning can be furnished for verification by the Institute.

Procedures for application

• Application for membership must be made on a prescribed form and in accordance with procedures spelt out on the prescribed form.
• Entrance fee and annual subscription of RM 200 and RM 75 respectively are payable in advance on application. All cheques or bank drafts are to be payable to "Institute of Commercial & Industrial Accountants, Malaysia".
• Copies of all certificates submitted in support of the application must be certified by a commissioner for oaths or a member of the Institute and forwarded together with the application. A passport size photo of the applicant must be enclosed together with the application.
• The annual subscription of the Institute is due and payable on the 1st day of each calendar year irregardless of the payment of the initial subscription on application for membership.
• All applications are processed by the Membership Sub Committee and forwarded to the Council for a decision during its meetings held between 4 to 6 times during the year. Decision of the Council is final and no explanation is required to be given for any rejection.
